Vintage Cat Fanciers was formed in 1974 by a group of local pedigreed cat breeders, who wanted to meet regularly and share their general interest in the Cat Fancy. We have been hosting an annual cat show in St. Catharines every year since 1975. The club is proudly affiliated with The Cat Fanciers' Association, Inc. which is the world's largest registry of pedigreed cats. The name of the club represents the Niagara Peninsula, an area rich in wine producing traditions, and where the club hosts it's annual show.
The objects of our club are:
The members of Vintage Cat Fanciers have worked hard over the years to achieve the goals of our club. We have, on numerous, occasions visited the local nursing homes with some of our cats. The seniors in these homes have delighted in being able to touch and cuddle one of our kittens or cats. We have taken our cats into the local schools during their pet section of a curriculum, and explained about the different breeds and the general care that a pet cat needs, and about responsible pet ownership.
Our club participated in the Childrens' Festival at the Skylon Tower in Niagara Falls in May of 1989. We had a booth set up with examples of the different breeds and informational/educational literature supplied to us by CFA. The booth was a huge success at the show.
Our members have taken part in numerous radio programs, and TV shows in an effort to increase the public awareness of pedigreed cats. Our secretary acts as an information source for location of breeders in our area, and is constantly fielding calls about pedigreed cats that are directed to her by local veterinarian offices, food supply stores and the Humane Society.
Some of the profit from our shows is donated to either the Winn Feline Foundation or to local animal assistance groups. One year, we placed a large sum of money on deposit with a local pet food store. That money was used by the local Animal Assistance Society to purchase supplies required during the year in order to take proper care of their foster cats.
We currently are an Information Provider to the Niagara Peninsula Freenet. The Freenet offers very reasonably priced Internet access for local residents, and the Vintage Cat Fanciers menu offers links to the multitude of areas where one can find cat information on the Internet.
And, of course, our annual cat show in St. Catharines is a always popular event with the people in the Niagara region.
