The Apache Cats Up North
Alayne Poeltl of Apache Cattery has been breeding American Shorthairs for over 30 years, and has also been going north to her cottage on the French River for about the same length of time. As she prefers to spend most of the summer up north, the cats naturally go with her. The unusual thing is that the cats get the roam of the island on which the cottage is located - unusual for a pedigreed cat! They are very adept at hunting, and bring home a parade of shrews, mice, chipmunks, frogs, toads - and even a garter snake. The majority of these are released, a little scared, but unharmed. And these photos will show you that the cats thoroughly enjoy the freedom!
One of the females patrolling the water's edge looking for frogs and toads. Believe me, she's fast and catches them too!
Chrissie and Glade (or is it Peta?) take a few moments to enjoy the still water.
Even the 8 week old kittens got in on the act. These were taken their first day of "bush" training. Shy and scared - they definitely weren't!
