WORLD WIDE WEB

To fully explore the abundant information on pets on the Internet, you must have access to the World Wide Web. Note that access through a freenet may not give you the graphical capabilities that are available through a full service provider......just means you can't see the pretty pictures, but you can still access the text information.

The very new CAT FANCIERS' ASSOCIATION(CFA) web site is an indepth look at the world's largest registry of pedigreed cats. This site includes the history of CFA, a look at the operation of it's Central Office and Board of Direct ors, it's International Division, and information on it's show formats, judging program and clerking program. Links to pictures of CFA's top cats, and breed profiles provide a virtual slide show of the many CFA recognized breeds. Of special interest are t he pages of information about CFA's activities in the fields of feline research and animal welfare. For all cat lovers, a link provides access to many of the educational and informational pamphlets published by CFA. For breeders and exhibitors, included is a show listing for the 1996. A special pricing offer on the 1996 CFA Yearbook is an offer worth taking advantage of by Internet users. Many links include everything from determi ning your cats color to information about rabies, to a full color presentation of the 1994-1995 Top Cats in CFA worldwide, to breed profiles that provide insight into the nuances of every breed recognized by CFA. Links to offiste veterinary sources and o ther pet animal pagaes are an added bonus. This is a very comprehensive look at CFA and the site is a joy to explore for any cat lover.

At the CAT FANCIERS HOME PAGE you will find a compilation of facts regarding the purebred cat. There are pages explaining frequently asked questions about different breeds of cats, cat colors and patterns, breed clubs, fat fancy terms, show explanations, a list of cat magazines and books that are available in stores, a listing of CFA (Cat Fanciers' Association, Inc.) cat shows across North America, and also links to other cat related sites around the world. Commercial links include specialty stores and creative bird accessories, or you can try a site about bird clubs , and birding sites around the world although this leans more to discussion on birdwatching than to pet birds. This page is currently in a re-organization phase and is "under construction".

For fish and aquarium enthusiasts, there is the FISH INFORMATION SERVICE or FINS which isa page of information that will provide links to all types of material about fish, aquariums, and aquatic plants. There is also a forum where questions can be posed that will result in answers from experts, and a link to obtain free samples and new product information. The IAMS Company has a new site that provides product information and free samples, among other listings.

One of the best sites for pets is The Electronic Zoo through which you can start out by first deciding which type of animal you want information on, and then following their links for an in-depth look at that animal or breed. Everything is covered here from dog and cats, to amphibians, to cows. It is definitely a site well worth exploring in detail.

SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS

Other pet related information on the Internet can be located in Special Interest Groups (SIG) that are found on some freenets. The Victoria Freenet (Victoria, British Columbia), the National Capital Freenet (Ottawa, Ontario), and the SEFLIN Freenet (Southeastern Florida) are just a few that have pet SIGs. The Niagara Peninsula Freenet (St. Catharines, Ontario) is in the process of setting up a discussion section about pets, and will include and SIG in the near future. These freenet SIGs are localized pet forums where you can get pet information regarding your specific location, i.e. if you are new in town and want a vet recommendation, where is the cheapest store to purchase pet food, need to know where to purchase a certain breed of cat, want to know when the next show is, etc.

USENET NEWSGROUPS

Similar information, on a world-wide scale, is found in the USENET newsgroups. These newsgroups related to pets currently include:

Posting a note to one of these groups will make it available to anyone anywhere in the world who happens to link to that specific newsgroup.

Exploring the world of pets on the Internet is truly fascinating......and will keep you occupied and amused for many hours. There really is a lot of valuable pet information out there in cyberspace!
