Interviewer: Aby breeders see Bastis names in the pedigrees of many great Abys around the world. Who do you think are the most influential cats in your lines?
Wain: My most important cats producing consistent National Winners and Distinguish Merit Winners are:
Rusty Nail is also the sire of GC Catknapp Bert of Bastis DM, who in turn is the sire of GC, NW Catknapp Crimson Joy. C.J. is the sire of GC, NW Catknapp Cardinal Sin. This is who I am breeding to now.
Starlet Ribbons is the dam of GC, NW Bastis Flash Gordon, DM.
Janet Planet is the dam of GC, NW Bastis Dailey Planet DM
When Flash Gordon bred Daily Planet, several important cats were the result, including GC, NW Bastis Simply Red.
Interviewer: What in your view are the most important breedings you've done?
Wain: The most important breedings in recent years are:
B. GC, NW Bastis Flash Gordon, DM x Catknapp Obsession of Bastis, who produced:
C. GC, NW Bastis Flash Gordon DM X GC, NW Bastis Daily Planet DM, who produced:
Interviewer: What is different about the Bastis look, or the Bastis style of Abys?
Wain: I was (am) breeding Abys to please myself. I have a mental picture of my perfect cat. I want a very stylish cat with a distinctive look.
Judges often tell me that they can pick out my cats anywhere in the world. I think that a lot of this has to do with the expression. CFA Judge Marian Butler calls it the "drop dead" look.
Interviewer: Thank you, Wain, for taking the time for this interview. I think your breeding record speaks for itself.
